How did agencybods™ come about?
agencybods™ is the idea of ex-agency owner, Carl Hopkins. After many, many years of hiring (and yes, firing) staff it was inevitable that Carl garnered his fair share of experience with traditional recruitment agencies. And although he used them with some success, the practices of some of the agencies never failed to amaze or annoy him.
It seemed the frustrations he faced of inappropriate candidates, un-vetted CV’s, high fees, quick payment terms and no shared risk were the same frustrations felt by other agency owners.
Once Carl had left agency life, being a rather well-connected chap, he found that agency owners were approaching him to find appropriate candidates. At the same time, candidates were asking Carl if he knew of any vacancies. So in April 2008, Carl put together a simple four page website as an administration area to clear the recruitment paperwork from his desk. In less than 24 hours someone had uploaded their CV! agencybods™ was born.
What's different about agencybods™?
agencybods™ was borne out of a need for a new model in agency recruitment. A model that does not hit agency owners with high fees or send them in appropriate candidates. A model that shares the risk if the match isn’t one made in heaven; a model that is run by a man who has sat in their seat and actually managed a multi-million pound, full service agency.
agencybods™ also recognises the talent of the candidates. We seek to inform and educate candidates about the impact traditional agency fees may have on their chances of securing a place in their dream agency; many candidates have no idea that up to 22% can be added to their salary requests as an agency fee which the prospective employer has to swallow.
We also share the risk with the agencies - should the candidate not make it through their probationary period we reimburse half of the fee to the agency – which other recruitment agency truly shares the risk in this way?
And to top it all, agencybods'™ fee is the lowest around at a flat rate of 10% - regardless of salary level.
Who is 'top-bod'?
Carl Hopkins is ‘top-bod’ or the ‘bod-father’ as recently reported in the media. Carl started his career with direct response agency JDA as a designer in 1984 and over the course of the next 16 years, progressed through many areas of agency life from creative to pre-press, from production to account handling. He became Client Services Director and then Managing Director. He liked the agency so much that he bought it in 2000, going on to buy a branding and PR agency in 2002 to add to JDA’s portfolio. In 2007 he sold the agency to The Direct Marketing Group and now spends his time working with many businesses as well as going into agencies to help them with their structures, training, recruitment and marketing needs.
